Report an Injured or Deceased Nēnē

Nēnē are federally threatened and remain endangered under Hawaiʻi state law. Vehicle strikes, dog and cat attacks, and entanglements still kill birds every year, and most go unreported. What you send here gets routed to DOFAW and the appropriate refuge or park staff. The things that actually help us follow up are photos, a precise location, and a way to reach you.

Condition and urgency

Pick the closest match. If the bird is bleeding, can't stand, or was just hit, mark it critical.

Photos and videos

Upload photos first. If your phone saved GPS and a timestamp, we'll pull those automatically and you can skip the location and date fields.

Location

Drop a pin on the map or search a landmark. The more precise the better, since responders often work from coordinates.

Description and notes

What you saw, when you saw it, and anything else that might help. Bands, leg injuries, behavior, nearby hazards.

How to reach you *

We may need to ask a follow-up question or confirm the location. Name plus an email or phone is enough.
